Sea transportation

Sea transportation

The primary delivery method is via the ports of Tanjung Priok in Jakarta, Tanjung Perak in Surabaya and Belawan in Medan. Transit time from Europe is 25–40 days.

Air transportation

Registration in the Indonesia National Single Window (INSW) system is mandatory. Required documents include an invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin.

Tariffs and duties

Tariffs and duties

Import duties range from 0% to 60%, depending on the product category. VAT (PPN) is 11%, while income tax (PPh) is 2.5–10% for importers with an API license.

Incoterms

INCOTERMS 2020

The most common terms are CIF to Jakarta, FOB at the port of departure and DDP to the buyer's warehouse. Choosing the right Incoterms is essential when calculating duties.

Cargo insurance

Cargo insurance

We recommend insurance coverage of 110% of the cargo value. Coverage may include damage, loss and delays. We work with leading Indonesian insurance companies.

Customs

Customs clearance requirements

The customs clearance process in Indonesia is regulated by the Ministry of Finance and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC).

Temporary storage

Cargo is placed in a temporary storage warehouse (TPS) until customs clearance is completed. The storage period is up to 30 days. Duties and fees are charged from the first day.

  • Documents are submitted through the INSW system
  • Electronic declaration (PIB)
  • Goods release within 1–3 business days

Procedures and risks

Customs inspection may involve a green or red channel. The red channel requires document verification and a physical inspection of the cargo. Non-compliance may result in penalties.

  • Green channel for reliable importers with an API license
  • Red channel inspection may take up to 7 days
  • Post-clearance audit for up to 5 years
